At the end of this year, two Dutch professional adventurers, Wilco van Rooijen and Fokke van Velzen, will drive 2300 km with a solar powered vehicle to the South Pole to make a statement about alternative energy sources and to inspire youth all over the world to contribute to a more sustainable way of living. The adventurers asked the University of Applied Sciences in Utrecht, the Netherlands, to design and build a car.

CAT Lift Trucks recently announced two new options for the range DP/GP40N - 55N: Oil Cooled Wet Disk Brakes (WDB) and ProShift. The WDB is a completely sealed braking system ideal in areas where high concentrations of abrasive materials are found. The WDB brake system is locked away and cooled with oil, which means that the brakes do not wear due to the abrasive dust. The brakes operate at lower temperatures cooled by oil. This means that glazing of the drum brake shoes does not occur, which is an additional benefit.

The first machines to be produced as part of a strategic alliance with German manufacturer Wacker Neuson, the minis broaden the appeal of the Cat® compact crawler excavator line-up, extending machine choice for customers in a variety of industry sectors.

Proven Cat grade control systems are now available installed from the factory as an integral component of select EPA Tier 4/EU Stage III emission compliant Cat track-type tractors, wheel tractor-scrapers, motor graders and hydraulic excavators. When installed on a D8T or D9T Cat track-type tractor, Grade Control offers blade automation in three basic modes. These include a rough grade control for initial cut, grade protection as the site develops and Cat Grade Control with Integrated AutoCarry™ to ensure consistent blade loads and to limit track slip.
