CAT Lift Trucks recently announced two new options for the range DP/GP40N - 55N: Oil Cooled Wet Disk Brakes (WDB) and ProShift. The WDB is a completely sealed braking system ideal in areas where high concentrations of abrasive materials are found. The WDB brake system is locked away and cooled with oil, which means that the brakes do not wear due to the abrasive dust. The brakes operate at lower temperatures cooled by oil. This means that glazing of the drum brake shoes does not occur, which is an additional benefit.
The system ProShift greatly enhances the productivity of a truck. The driving and working experience is similar to driving a hydrostat truck, but with a different technical solution. The ProShift functions include:
• Auto deceleration - the truck slows down automatically when the driver takes his foot off the accelerator pedal
• Controlled power reversal - drive wheel spinning is prevented or greatly reduced when the driver shifts from forward driving to
reverse (or vice versa) while at full throttle or high speed. This function will automatically slow down and switch driving direction at a
low safe speed, even if the accelerator pedal is still activated
• Hill Hold – improves controllability of the truck on a ramp or gradient. The truck will hold its position on a ramp when the driver applies the brake pedal for more then
0,5 seconds
• Smooth start driving - when the truck is at stand-still with the engine running, the truck’s transmission will not shift into gear if the accelerator pedal is not fully released.
This function protects the truck’s transmission, it reduces tire wear significantly and tire marks are either prevented at all or vastly reduced.

18 March 2013 The Coldest Journey
The Coldest Journey is the first ever attempt to cross the Antarctic continent during the polar winter. Led by Sir Ranulph Fiennes ‘the world’s greatest living explorer’ (Guinness World Records), the traverse will take place between the two seasonal equinoxes, 21st March – 21st September, with the ice team travelling from Novo to the Ross Sea in the Antarctic winter. During this six month period the expedition team will have travelled 2,000 miles, mostly in complete darkness in temperatures as low as –90°C.
